Which Unlimited Car Wash Membership Is the Best Value in Michigan?

Michigan has roughly 4,300 car washes and 248 tracked unlimited programs. The median plan runs $21.99 a month. One of them fits how you actually drive, and the monthly price alone won’t tell you which.

Cheap and worth it are not the same thing. A $19.99 plan that buys soap and a blower is not a better deal than a $25.99 plan that seals your undercarriage against brine, even though one number is smaller.

So this is a comparison of what each dollar buys, across the chains with a real Michigan footprint. Competitor prices were verified in August 2026, and Jax prices are the rates that take effect October 1, 2026. Several chains price by location, so confirm locally before you sign.

How We Ranked These Unlimited Car Wash Plans

One thing to know up front: Jax Kar Wash publishes this guide. So rather than asking you to take the ranking on faith, here’s the method behind it, with every figure sourced and dated, and every plan judged on the same five criteria.

Five criteria, weighted in this order:

Protection per dollar at a comparable tier. A $19.99 plan and a $25.99 plan rarely include the same things. We compared plans that include actual paint and undercarriage protection, not just a wash cycle.

Real monthly cost. List price, plus whatever prepay or intro offers genuinely change what you pay over a year.

Michigan coverage and portability. How many locations, and does the membership work at all of them.

Contract terms. Cancel-anytime, notice periods, and what happens to the rest of your billing cycle.

Flexibility. Washes per day, pausing, plan changes, multi-vehicle handling.

What we didn’t score: wash quality. Every chain here runs modern soft-cloth or touchless equipment, and judging one tunnel against another from the outside would be guesswork. Free amenities counted only where they’re genuinely unusual.

1. Jax Kar Wash: Best Overall Value in Michigan

Starting October 1, 2026, exterior plans are $25.99, $34.99, and $40.99 a month. The full breakdown of unlimited car wash membership cost runs through every tier. Adding interior cleaning brings those to $48.99, $53.99, and $60.99.

Start with what the cheapest tier actually includes. Basic Plus at $25.99 includes Triple Bond Wax, Wheel Clean, Under Sealant, and Triple-Foam. Most $19.99 plans we looked at are a wash and a dry. Under Sealant does the work that matters here, because Michigan road salt attacks the frame rails and rocker seams long before it shows on the paint.

Paying up front brings that number down further. Pay a year up front and months 13 and 14 are free, plus a $40 gift card, which brings Basic Plus to an effective $19.42 a month. That lands below every list price on this page, and it still includes the undercarriage protection the cheapest tiers skip.

Three things no Michigan competitor we found matches: Vacation Hold, which pauses a membership once a year for 30 days to nine months without losing time; two washes per day rather than one; and genuine unlimited interior tiers.

Members also get 25% off detailing, free vacuums and blowers, and access at every Jax location across Michigan and Indiana. WashIndex independently ranks Jax the largest chain in the state.

Where Jax doesn’t win: sticker price. Three chains on this list start at $19.99 and Jax starts at $25.99, so if the lowest possible monthly number is the goal, Jax isn’t it. There’s no free first month either, and no multi-car discount. Those are real concessions, and they’re why the ranking here is argued on protection per dollar rather than on price alone.

2. Tommy’s Express: Best First-Month Offer and Family Pricing

Tommy’s is our closest competitor in Michigan, with 53 locations, and their pricing varies inside the state. Metro Detroit stores run $19.99 to $34.99. West Michigan stores run $21.99 to $39.99.

Their first month is free, which is as aggressive an intro offer as we found in Michigan, and something Jax does not currently match. They also discount additional vehicles by $5 each after the second car, so a three-car household saves real money.

The app and plate reader work well, membership is valid chain-wide, and there’s no contract. The entry tier includes less protection, and there’s no way to pause when you store a car for the season.

3. El Car Wash: Best New Entrant in Metro Detroit

El Car Wash brought its Florida playbook north and opened six Metro Detroit locations in Brighton, Madison Heights, Novi, Southfield, Sterling Heights, and Warren.

Basic is $20.99, Better $30.99, Ceramic $34.99, Graphene $36.99. That Graphene tier is priced well against comparable ceramic plans, and the free amenities are unusually generous: vacuums, mat cleaners, microfiber towels, glass cleaner, and an air blaster.

Two limits to know. It’s one wash per day, not two. And you can only change the plate on your account once every six months, which is restrictive if your car goes into the shop.

4. Zax Auto Wash: Cheapest Sustained Entry Price in Southeast Michigan

Seventeen locations across Southeast Michigan, and the plans run $19.99, $22.99, $27.99, and $34.99. First two months are roughly half price.

If you want the lowest monthly price from a chain with real local coverage, Zax is it. The Works tier at $27.99 is priced competitively for what it includes.

Zax handles account changes the old-fashioned way. Changing your plan or moving your membership to a different vehicle requires visiting a location in person. Every other chain here handles that online, and you tend to find out on the day you need it changed.

5. Mister Car Wash: Biggest National Network

Mister has around 37 Michigan locations and a national footprint that dwarfs everyone here, so your membership travels if you do.

Mister sets its rates by location and does not publish a Michigan price list, so we could not confirm local numbers. Nationally their tiers run roughly $22.99 for Base, $32.99 for Platinum, and $39.99 for Titanium. Treat those as a guide and check your own ZIP.

They’re one of the few chains here with a full-service option rather than exterior-only express, which matters if you want the cabin handled too. Access is chain-wide via an RFID sticker, and there’s no free first month or multi-car discount.

6. WhiteWater Express: Solid Mid-Market, Read the Cancellation Clause

Roughly 20 Michigan locations, valid across all 141 sites nationally, with tiers that land in the $22.99 to $39.99 range. Their own site notes prices vary by market, so the Michigan figures may differ.

Two things in their terms are worth reading before you sign. Cancellation has to reach them five days before your next payment, which is not the same as cancel-anytime, and there is no multi-vehicle discount at all. Tampering with the RFID tag voids the membership.

Nothing wrong with the wash. Just know the terms you’re agreeing to.

7. Ric & Stan’s: Best Value in Southwest Michigan

A local operator around Kalamazoo, Portage, Plainwell, Allegan, and Otsego, with plans at $19.99, $24.99, $29.99, and $34.99, and $5 off each additional vehicle.

They’re the only chain here that explicitly advertises no daily wash cap at all, which they describe as three times or three hundred. If you’re in Southwest Michigan and wash constantly, that’s a genuinely good deal.

Two caveats. The pass is valid only at their express exterior sites, not all locations. And their published pricing hasn’t been updated in some time, so confirm current rates before signing up.

A Jax Unlimited Car Wash Plan for Every Type of Driver

Jax runs six plan configurations rather than one because drivers don’t all need the same thing. A commuter putting three hundred miles a week on I-75 through salt season has a different problem than someone washing a garage-kept sedan twice a month.

That’s the case for reading the tier list as a menu rather than a ladder. The top plan isn’t automatically the right answer, and the cheapest one isn’t automatically the frugal choice. What you’re buying is a match between how the car gets used and what the wash puts on it.

Basic Plus at $25.99 is built for steady upkeep. Triple Bond Wax, Wheel Clean, Under Sealant, and Triple-Foam cover what matters most through a Michigan winter, which makes it a sensible fit for older vehicles, second cars, and anyone who wants their car looking cared for without paying for a premium finish.

Starting October 1, 2026, Almost Everything runs $34.99 a month. It is where most drivers land, adding Tire Shine, treated glass, and Hot Wax & Shine that turn a routine wash into something closer to a light detail.

Starting October 1, 2026, Everything runs $40.99 a month and tops it with Simoniz Ceramic Sealant, which earns its price on newer cars, leased vehicles, and dark paint where swirls and water spots show under any light.

Add interior cleaning to any tier and the cabin comes with it, at $48.99, $53.99, or $60.99 starting October 1, 2026, along with cross-grading that lets you trade the interior service for a free bump to the next exterior tier on days the cabin is already clean.

Because unlimited car wash plans are priced per vehicle, you can match each car to its own tier: the newer one on Everything, the daily commuter on Basic Plus. Running more than one car on unlimited plans takes about five minutes to set up.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the average cost of an unlimited car wash membership in Michigan?

About $21.99 a month, with 248 tracked programs across the state ranging from $10 to $95. Entry tiers at most chains cluster between $19.99 and $25.99, and what separates them is whether that price includes paint and undercarriage protection or just a wash.

Which unlimited car wash membership is the best value in Michigan?

It depends on what you weight. On protection included per dollar, on prepay pricing, and on flexibility like pausing and two washes a day, Jax Kar Wash comes out ahead. On lowest sticker price, Tommy’s Express, Zax Auto Wash, and Ric & Stan’s all start lower at $19.99.

Is a cheaper unlimited plan worth it?

Only if you know what it leaves out. A $19.99 entry tier is usually a wash, a rinse, and a dry. Plans in the $25 to $35 range typically add wax, wheel cleaning, and undercarriage sealant, which is what actually protects a car through a Michigan salt season.

Which Michigan car wash chain has the most locations?

Jax Kar Wash, according to WashIndex’s tracking of the Michigan market, followed by Mister Car Wash and Tommy’s Express. Chain size matters mainly because it determines whether your membership is usable where you actually drive.

Do unlimited car wash memberships have contracts?

Most in Michigan do not, but the cancellation mechanics differ. Jax, Tommy’s, Zax, and Ric & Stan’s are cancel-anytime with no fee. WhiteWater Express requires five days’ notice before your next payment, and Classic Auto Wash applies opt-outs at the start of the following month rather than immediately.

Can I pause an unlimited car wash membership?

Rarely. Jax offers Vacation Hold, which pauses a membership once per year for a minimum of 30 days and up to nine months with no time lost. We could not find an equivalent option at any other Michigan chain, so if you store a vehicle seasonally, it’s worth asking before you sign up.

Look past the monthly price. What’s actually in the wash, what a year really costs, whether the plan bends when your life does.

On those terms, we think Jax earns the top spot, whichever tier turns out to be yours. Every plan is contract-free, works at any Jax location offering your tier, and can be paused, changed, or canceled online with no fee.
